Art History Meetup: Why Did They Make That?

Join us for an Art History Meetup in the Gallery!

Adult Programs

Wed, February 26 / 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

We are welcoming any art enthusiast, especially those with a background in art (or art history) to join our exploration of artists and art movements throughout history from the Renaissance to Abstract Expressionism!

If you yearn for knowledge about art history through the ages or are an enthusiastic art historian willing to share your expertise, we encourage you to join us for “Why did they make that?”

On the last Wednesday of every month from 5:00-6:00pm in the Education Gallery, there will be a host speaker providing a brief overview with examples of the art for that session followed by open-ended discussion questions to feed group dialogue. The foundation of this program has been built on the desire to learn about the past, share insights, discuss ideas and foster inspiration.  This is an opportunity for anyone to access knowledge about art history, connect with other artists, and for helping local artists find even more inspiration for their work.

This program is free for members (and free for first time guests), so come find out what has influenced artists through the ages! Come make some friends and figure out “Why did they make that?”

Guest Speaker: Kathleen Ellertson, Univ of AZ Art History major and self-proclaimed “Bauhaus enthusiast” who has recently returned from Germany, visiting the Bauhaus 100 year anniversary.  Presentation will highlight the birthplace of all three Bauhaus museums and schools and how it affects us today.
