What is Lottery for the Arts?

The Lottery for the Arts is a fundraising event that provides art collectors with an opportunity to acquire original works of fine art, while supporting a non-profit organization and community of artists. Each year Blue Line Arts accepts original art donations from artists or from collections, which are exhibited at the gallery prior to the auction.  Throughout the evening of the Lottery event, Lottery tickets purchased by guests in advance are drawn at random. As each ticket is called out, the ticket holder chooses a piece of art from the gallery walls. At the end of the evening, each ticket holder goes home with a work of art valued $200 or higher. There will be a live auction of the first 6 picks.

All works are considered donations to Blue Line Arts.

Lottery for the Arts is our organization’s biggest annual fundraiser and is used to fund our year-round art education programs.  Your artwork donation helps provide the gift of creative learning to the next generation at our non-profit arts center. 

ARTIST BENEFITS

Prizes: Our Juror will be choosing the top prizes of First, Second and Third, and honorable mentions. First Place, Second Place & Third Place winners will be awarded solo show opportunities in November 2021.

Juror: Pamela Skinner, gallerist and art consultant.

Pamela Skinner grew up in Colorado, and after high school attended Oklahoma University for two years with a major in Fashion Arts.  She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Colorado State University. After graduating, she lived in Denver, Colorado and Honolulu, Hawaii before moving to Sacramento in 1975.


Pamela’s careers grew out of her early interest in art and design. In the early 90’s she opened a small gallery in downtown Sacramento, Excentrique, with an emphasis on functional art. After a year, she moved into a loft space and it evolved into Pamela Skinner Gallery, dealing in fine art. Her curatorial emphasis has always been on 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional contemporary abstract work with an edge to it. The majority of artists that she has represented were from California and were emerging and established artists. Her gallery operated for 19 years. Since the closing of the Pamela Skinner/Gwenna Howard Contemporary Art gallery in Southside Park gallery in 2012, she has continued to represent artists and work with clients as an art consultant. On occasion, she also hosts artist receptions– invitation only– and has been involved with curating shows for other galleries as well as being a guest juror.

Exhibition Size:
Approximately 100 pieces of art will be accepted.

Online Gallery & Event: Accepted pieces will appear on the Blue Line Arts’ website for an online preview to the auction. Each piece featured on the website will feature the artist’s name, and link to website. Select pieces will also be featured in e-blasts and social media posts on Blue Line Arts’ channels leading up to the event.

Eligibility

• Open to all artists 18 and older

• All artwork must be for sale/auction.  No accepted entry may be withdrawn or sold outside of the exhibition prior to the closing date.

  • Any work donated becomes the property of Blue Line Arts for use in the auction.  The artist understands that there is no commission awarded to the Artist on the sale of any donated work.

• Accepted artwork that differs significantly from the image in the online submission will be disqualified

• The artist is responsible to pay for all shipping and must include a prepaid label for return of artwork, if the artist wishes it to be returned in the case it does not sell at auction
       – FedEx or UPS ONLY
       – No USPS
       – Two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang
       – Wire must be installed, No sawtooth hangers

FAQ

Q: Is my donation Tax-Deductible?

A: Yes! We are a registered 501c3 and your donation is tax deductible.  However, if you are an artist donating original art, you may only deduct the cost of the materials and supplies used in the creation of the donated work. If you are donating work you previously purchased, an appraisal value is required on all donations over $5,000 in value. Please consult your tax professional if you have further questions about art donations. We are not tax professionals.

Q: I’m not an artist, can I donate artwork?

A: Yes – we accept original work valued $200 or more.  We do not accept giclees, but may accept high-value prints into our live auction.   Please contact the gallery if you are unsure about your donation.

A: We are always looking for unique items and experiences for our auction- and wine, and volunteers!  Please contact the gallery to learn more about how you can be a part of this fun community event!
