Exhibition Dates: June 12th to July 25, 2020
3rd Saturday Reception: June 20th
In 2020, our annual Membership Medley Exhibition holds special significance for Blue Line Arts, our team, and our participating artists. As the first show to open after we closed our gallery doors in March, it comes nearly 3 months after state guidelines were issued to help reduce the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Events and exhibitions were derailed or postponed indefinitely, and we transitioned to minimal operations, working to find a way to reopen responsibly when it would be safe to do so.
Programs transitioned to virtual formats and we reviewed additional online viewing options, new CDC guidelines, and gallery appointment systems while weighing how long we could afford to stay closed. Regardless of the logistical challenges posed by our ‘new normal’, our team feels a renewed sense of purpose as we prepare to reopen the gallery for this exhibition. Though we have done our best in this time to continue to provide artists with a platform, the experience of viewing art in person cannot be replaced. It is for this reason that our work to provide exhibitions, both to uplift artists and create opportunities for our community to experience art, remains vital.
Medleys of the recent past have been characterized by lively receptions sometimes exceeding 400 in attendance. Unfortunately, it may be some time before it is possible to gather in that way again, but we look forward to sustaining that energy by producing a large number of artist video interviews, so that local artists continue to have ways to educate and engage with the community, even if they cannot do so in person.
We would like to thank our Artist Members for the diverse display of artistic talent they bring to this show, and for the resiliency they have demonstrated and inspired us with over the past 3 months and beyond.
