Ribbon tape, metallic yarn, hand-painted cotton/linen warp 32 Inches x 36 Inches x 1 Inches
Kristy Bishop’s work is full of vivid and contrasting colors, bold patterns, tassels and fringe combined to create woven wall relief. Often using pinks and reds derivative of the flesh combined with the spectacle of glitzy metallic fabric and yarn. In her woven pieces, she adorns the bold patterns with heavy, metallic tassels and fringe like that of a Burlesque dancer. There, the performer uses tassels as a satire on modesty, covering the nipple while simultaneously drawing even more attention to it. This tactile body of work is created with the question of how cloth is used to conceal, adorn and draw attention to the body.
