Statement from Miguel Espinosa:

I am a proud Mexican-American and want to share portraits of some of the people in my life. I included a portrait of my mother Marcella, and one of my grandfather Mike. Sharing yourself for a portrait is sharing how you’ve been shaped by your unique experiences up to the present moment. I am grateful to my family for letting me portray them. 

Part of my job is accurately describing the person I portray. By making the portrait, I document their unique physical features, but also record how they dress and carry themselves. I selected these portraits for this show because each of them has their own unique likeness, their own story that involves being of Mexican heritage in America today.
