Roots Rock – Steve Bradford
I’m a Maine native, studied printmaking at the University of Southern Maine, and, after moving to Sacramento, CA, in 1982, took up assemblage in the early 1990’s. I returned to Portland, Maine in 2002 and moved to the small town of Lisbon Falls in 2009.
In my work, I like to take common, everyday things and put them together in ways that create a visual story. There’s also an element of Yankee frugality in reusing aged and broken objects that would otherwise be thrown away.
Influences on my work range from the simplicity of peasant or “outsider” art to the filigree and rococo, “ultra-baroque” decoration of southern Mexican cathedrals.
