These works are made by appropriating images of contemporary and historic artworks. Using selections of the shapes and their outlines, the layered surfaces, at the same time familiar and foreign, are meant to disorient and lead the viewer through an endless examination of organic shapes, tonal values and textures, My process is intuitive and focuses on the visual tension between negative/positive space, figuration/abstraction, and how 2D forms occupy, define and create space.

More about the artist

"I've been an artist and educator for over 20 years and have served on the boards of several vital Bay Area arts non-profits: Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, San Jose ICA, and Root Division in San Francisco. I understand how important the arts are to our communities and how much they rely on the support of many constituencies, especially artists. Artists may not have a lot of disposable income to donate, but we have art and I'm always happy to donate work if it can help.

In 2020 I moved from San Francisco to Amador County and I'm keen to become involved in the arts in this area and to help support deserving arts organizations like Blue Line Arts."
