Susan Cooley-Gilliom (1940–2003) was a beloved local artist and environmental advocate whose award-winning pastels and watercolors reflected her deep connection to the natural world. After moving to Auburn in 1984, Susan initially explored weaving and fiber art before turning to painting. A lifelong learner, she traveled throughout the United States taking workshops from renowned artists, an adventurous spirit of artistic exploration that lives on through the Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist in Residence and Teaching (SCG ART) Program. Established in 2010 through an endowed gift from her mother, Sue Cooley, and the Sky View Foundation, the program brings nationally and regionally recognized artists to Blue Line Arts for residencies which include open studios, lectures, and workshops to extend Susan’s legacy of art and learning to the community.
